Our Customers said
"Writing to you and your courteous staff to express my utter delight in my new Altenburg grand piano." -Mark W., Clearwater, Florida
"...honest, knowledgeable, kind, and listened to our needs very carefully. A pleasure to do business with." -Denise & Larry S., Princeton, NJ
"There are very few companies around like you who will take the time to make sure the customer is satisfied. Very much appreciated and the piano is wonderful!" -Valerie O., Summit, NJ
"The piano arrived yesterday and was set up in no time flat. It plays as beautiful as it looks, which is even better than I had expected. I have to admit, I really felt I was taking a chance buying something sight unseen (a piano, no less!) but it turned out to be well worth it. A business that's been in the same family for 156 years MUST be doing something right!" -Jay Y., New York, NY
"I just wanted to let you know that my piano arrived this evening and it is beautiful to look at, and beautiful to play. It is all that your salesperson, Mary Brown, said it would be. The folks delivering the piano were great too. Thank you so much." -Marion B., Capac, MI

Family Owned and Operated Since 1846
The Altenburg Piano House, founded in 1847, is the oldest family-run piano house in the United States. Through all the years that have passed, one thing that has stayed constant is our passion for great pianos.
We have produced our signature Otto Altenburg pianos for many decades in a wide range of sizes in both vertical and grand models. A large selection may be tried here in satin and high polished finishes. Our Altenburgs are made with sandcast plates and represent excellent values.
The House of Altenburg also offer Baldwin pianos, Johannus Organs, made in the Netherlands, and choice pre-owned Yamaha pianos. Fine, rebuilt Steinway and Mason & Hamlin grands are also on hand.
Our History
We trace our origins to the Otto Altenburg Piano Co., founded in 1847 in Germany. The Altenburgs immigrated to New York City in 1855 and opened a piano factory.
In 1906 the family moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey and we've been here ever since. The first Elizabeth showroom opened in 1906 on East Jersey Street in Elizabeth. In 1926 we moved across the street to 1150 East Jersey Street.
Since then we've opened locations all over the
New York and New Jersey area - including locations in Paramus, Asbury
Park, Edison, Montclair and even Carnegie Hall! Right now we have two
locations, Elizabethtown and Lawrenceville.
We hope to see you one day soon and talk about our mutual love for pianos.
